After years and years of approval and disapproval, breast implants have now evolved to a large extent. Not only in USA, but globally, women with smaller breasts are going for breast implants. They have suffered teasing and criticisms and have a poor self image. But now, they can finally have the body they have desired for. A lot of information is already put up about the surgical procedures and financing of breast implants. But still very fewer details are known to people who want to go for surgery. Women who visit their surgeon for the first time often have a question mark on their face. It is always better to have some idea about the procedure and other know-hows. There are a lot of things that are involved in a breast implant surgery. There is a lot of thinking on your and the doctor’s part. Let the doctor worry about the surgery. But what is it that you should know very well?
Typically, your surgeon will tell you the pros and cons of this surgery before you go under the knife. But it never hurts to do a little bit of research on your part. You should know that there are two kinds of textures used for breast implants. They are called smooth implants and textured implants. Let’s look at them in detail.
- Smooth implants
They are used largely in breast augmentation surgeries. As the name suggests, they are smooth in texture. You will feel great about the implants. They have a light, thin covering and thus give a great shape. Also they have a higher durability and a lower cost. Surgeons go for this type mainly because there are low occasions of rippling compared to its textured counterpart.
- Textured implants
It is comparatively hard and rough. Surgeons started using this because their adherence quality towards the breast tissue is higher than smooth implants, which move freely within the breast pockets. Although there are higher cases of rippling and leakage reported in textured implants. But it is low on the incidence of implant displacement.
It is important to discuss it with your plastic surgeon to avoid a second, correction surgery.
